Forsyth County, GA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 54-34 of the Forsyth County Code, in Chapter 54's permit-required article, bans fireworks use in parks by default and then carves out the only path to legal use. Subsection (a) makes it a violation to use, light, shoot off, launch, fly, discharge, detonate or explode explosives, explosive devices or projectiles of any kind, expressly including fireworks, rockets, and other pyrotechnics, in any park or recreational facility, unless the person has prior approval by special permit. That mirrors the county's weapons restriction in section 54-13, which separately bans discharging firearms in parks without legal justification, so the fireworks and firearms bans work together to keep explosive and projectile hazards out of park settings absent county sign-off.

Subsection (b) adds a second, unrelated restriction folded into the same section: flying a model plane in a park or recreation facility also requires written permission from the parks and recreation director or a designee, a lower bar than the fireworks special-permit process but still a hard permission requirement, not a suggestion. Because the permit authority for fireworks sits with special-permit approval rather than the general permit process in section 54-31, an organizer planning a fireworks display for a park event needs to secure that specific pyrotechnics approval in addition to any general event permit; a standard park-use reservation alone does not authorize fireworks.
