Bonneville County, ID Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Chapter 93, adopted by Ordinance 134-83 in 1983, splits fireworks into "dangerous fireworks" and "safe and sane fireworks," with the safe and sane list capped by weight, such as cone fountains under 50 grams and sparklers no longer than ten inches. 02(A) makes it unlawful to import, sell, possess or store dangerous fireworks in the county at all, except for a permit holder staging a supervised public display, and even then the fireworks may be stored no more than ten days before the display and must meet Uniform Building Code storage rules.

02(B) requires a separate safe and sane fireworks sales permit before anyone may import, sell or offer safe and sane fireworks for sale. 03, both permits cost $35, filed with the Building Official: $10 is credited to the Clerk and Recorder as the state-required permit fee, $10 to the Building Department and $15 to the local Fire District fund. A sales permit application must be filed by June 15 and a display permit application by June 1 of the year sought, applicants must be over 21, and sales locations must sit in a commercially zoned area and carry liability insurance of at least $100,000 per person and $1,000,000 aggregate, plus $100,000 in property damage coverage naming the county as an additional insured.

The Fire Chief or Sheriff's Department must inspect the site before a temporary sales stand can open, and the Board of Commissioners approves, conditions or denies every application. on July 5, and stands cannot go up before June 10. 02(C) exempts agricultural and wildlife fireworks used by working farmers and ranchers in agricultural or rural zoned areas, provided they notify the fire district or Sheriff's Department in advance.
