Oregon is restrictive. Legal retail fireworks may not fly into the air, explode, or travel far. Bottle rockets, Roman candles, and firecrackers are illegal statewide, even in unincorporated Marion County.
Only "consumer" fireworks sold by permitted Oregon retailers between June 23 and July 6 are legal, and only for a stationary, low-hazard effect. State law prohibits any device that flies into the air, explodes, or travels more than 12 feet horizontally on the ground without a State Fire Marshal permit. Salem, Keizer, and other cities add local bans, and Marion County commonly issues fire-restriction closures barring all fireworks during dry conditions. Anyone who causes a fire can be billed for suppression costs.
Possessing or using illegal fireworks is a Class B misdemeanor, maximum $2,500 fine. Those responsible for damage may be billed for fire suppression and other costs.
