All fireworks including so-called safe and sane are banned within Rancho Cordova. Possession, sale, or discharge of any consumer firework is prohibited year-round. Violators face steep administrative fines and possible misdemeanor charges under California Health and Safety Code Section 12500 and following.
Rancho Cordova Municipal Code Chapter 8.08 and Sacramento Metro Fire District regulations prohibit the sale, possession, and use of all fireworks within city limits. Unlike some Sacramento County cities that allow safe and sane fireworks for a limited Fourth of July window, Rancho Cordova has opted for a total ban. Only professional displays authorized by Metro Fire and licensed pyrotechnicians under California State Fire Marshal licensure are permitted. The ban includes sparklers, fountains, smoke bombs, and all aerial devices. Metro Fire and Rancho Cordova Police conduct enhanced enforcement around July 4 and New Year, including a social host ordinance that can penalize property owners where fireworks are discharged.
Administrative fines escalate from 1,000 dollars for a first violation to 2,500 dollars and 5,000 dollars for repeat offenses. Possession of dangerous fireworks can trigger misdemeanor charges under California Health and Safety Code Section 12700.
