All consumer fireworks are banned within Spokane city limits year-round under SMC 10.04. Only licensed public displays are permitted. Spokane Fire Department conducts active enforcement around July 4th.
Spokane Municipal Code Section 10.04.021 prohibits the sale, possession, and discharge of all consumer fireworks within city limits, including those otherwise legal under RCW 70.77 statewide. The ban covers fountains, sparklers, ground spinners, firecrackers, and aerial devices. Only state-licensed professional public displays with a Washington State Fire Marshal permit are allowed. The Spokane Fire Department runs a fireworks hotline around Independence Day and conducts patrols. Neighboring jurisdictions (unincorporated Spokane County, some smaller cities) may allow fireworks on limited dates, but transporting them into Spokane city limits is illegal. The ban was strengthened due to wildfire risk in the surrounding eastside hills and WUI zones.
Possession or discharge: $513 fine minimum. Causing fire or injury: criminal charges under RCW 70.77.488 plus civil liability for fire damages.
