Teaneck enforces New Jersey's fireworks law, allowing only non-aerial, non-explosive sparkling devices and snakes for adults 16+, while banning all aerial fireworks, firecrackers, and sale to minors.
Under N.J.S.A. 21:3 (as amended in 2017), New Jersey permits ground-based and handheld sparkling devices and novelties for persons 16 and older. All aerial fireworks (rockets, mortars, Roman candles), firecrackers, and audible explosive devices remain illegal statewide and in Teaneck. The Teaneck Fire Prevention Bureau and Police Department enforce these rules, and possession of illegal fireworks may be confiscated. Display fireworks for events require state permits and certified pyrotechnicians.
Possession or use of prohibited aerial or explosive fireworks is a disorderly persons offense punishable by fines up to $1,000 and up to 6 months jail under New Jersey law.
