Mahwah prohibits possessing, discharging, or throwing firecrackers, rockets, or any fireworks in or adjacent to township park lands, with public displays allowed only by written municipal permit.
Under Chapter 9 (Recreational Facilities) of the Mahwah Code, no person may possess, explode, discharge, or burn any firecrackers, torpedoes, rockets, or other fireworks or inflammable explosives in any park area or on lands or highways adjacent to a park. The Township itself may conduct public exhibitions or issue written permits for sanctioned displays. State-legal sparkling devices and snakes may be sold but local park-area discharge restrictions still apply.
Discharging or possessing fireworks in or near Mahwah parks can result in police summonses, confiscation, and municipal fines.
