Waterbury, CT Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

04 prohibits "the sale, discharge, firing or use of fire crackers, rockets, torpedoes, Roman candles, fire balloons, fireworks, pistols, canes, cannons or other appliances using blank cartridges, or using caps, containing chlorate of potash mixture or any combustible or explosive composition" designed to produce a visible or audible pyrotechnic effect. The ban carries two carve-outs written directly into division (A): the city itself may stage municipal fireworks displays with the joint permission of the Mayor and the Chief of the Fire Department, and the section does not touch the lawful sale of pistols, revolvers or other firearms under state law.

Division (B) sets a distinct financial condition on any commercial exhibitor: before discharging, firing off, exploding or displaying fireworks at a public exhibition, that person or their agents must have on file with the City Clerk a bond "in the penal sum of not less than $1,000" to cover losses, damages or injuries the display might cause to persons or property. Division (C) assigns final licensing authority to the Mayor, who issues the licenses for fireworks displays. 04 in the current codification (through September 8, 2025).
