Professional fireworks displays require a permit from the local fire marshal. New Haven Fire Department and Police enforce fireworks laws, especially around July 4th. Confiscated fireworks are destroyed.
Possession of illegal fireworks is a Class C misdemeanor with fines up to $500. Sale of fireworks carries higher penalties.
