Marion County Code Chapter 8.70 permits open burning only of yard debris (wood, stalks, needles, leaves) on DEQ-authorized burn days during daylight, roughly 7:30 a.m. to two hours before sunset. Garbage, plastic, treated wood, and other waste may never be burned anywhere in Oregon. No open burning is allowed inside the Salem/Keizer UGB or in burn barrels, and you may burn only debris generated on your own property. Backyard burn permits are issued by the county Planning Division; larger farm, timber, and 2-plus-acre parcels have specific exceptions.
