Macon-Bibb County, GA Fire Regulations: Outdoor Burning (2026)

" That bureau sits inside the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department and, under Section 10-1(c), is "vested with full authority and power to enforce the provisions of the Fire Prevention Code," including making inspections and initiating court proceedings, by summons, citation, or warrant, against violators. § 25-2-12 and enforced locally together with the fire-safety ordinances the former City of Macon and Bibb County had on the books before the 2014 consolidation; those pre-merger rules stay in force as the "Macon-Bibb County Fire Prevention Code" except where they directly conflict with the state minimum code.

Because outdoor burning requires the Bureau's prior sign-off rather than being merely registered or notice-based, a resident or contractor who wants to burn brush, land-clearing debris, or other outdoor material has to secure approval before striking a match; there is no self-certifying exception written into Section 10-15 itself. The fire chief separately holds broad authority under Section 10-4 to command the scene of any fire, including ordering evacuations during a hazardous condition, which extends to enforcement against unauthorized outdoor burns that get out of hand.
