Euless follows the IRC and IFC for smoke alarms in dwellings. Alarms are required in each bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every floor. Landlords must provide working alarms at each tenancy.
The City of Euless enforces smoke-alarm requirements through its locally amended International Residential Code (IRC) and International Fire Code (IFC). Every one- and two-family dwelling must have interconnected smoke alarms installed inside each bedroom, in the hallway or area immediately outside each sleeping area, and on every story of the dwelling including basements and habitable attics. New construction and substantial remodels require hardwired alarms with battery backup and interconnection so that when one sounds they all sound. Existing homes not undergoing a permitted remodel can comply with 10-year sealed-battery alarms. Rental properties fall under Texas Property Code Chapter 92 Subchapter F, which requires landlords to install and maintain a working smoke alarm in each bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on each level of the unit at the start of every tenancy. Tenants may request inspection in writing, and refusal can trigger treble damages plus a civil penalty of 100 dollars. During fire investigations the Euless Fire Marshal will flag missing or disabled alarms and refer habitability violations to Code Enforcement. Carbon monoxide alarms are required when a fuel-burning appliance or attached garage exists, under 2018 IRC amendments adopted by Euless.
