Jackson County, GA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

Section 3-056 of the Unified Development Code sets the licensing chain for food trucks and mobile food vendors in the unincorporated county. Under subsection (c), the operator must apply for a license or permit with the Jackson County Health Department and submit proof of that approval before the public development department will authorize the truck to operate; the code states flatly that no food truck shall operate without health department permit or approval. That health permit sits on top of two other prerequisites: subsection (a) requires a valid tag from the state's division of motor vehicles, and subsection (d) requires the food truck operator to obtain the signed approval of the property owner for every location where the truck sets up, kept available for inspection on request.

Operationally, trucks must follow the State of Georgia's Rules and Regulations for Food Service, Chapter 290-5-14, Section U for special food service operations, which the county's health department approval checks against. Sanitation duties fall on the operator too, under subsection (h): waste and trash generated by the truck must be removed from the site before leaving, public trash cans cannot be used for it, and no drive-through or drive-up window setup or amplified microphones and bullhorns are permitted as part of the operation under subsection (g).
