Pawtucket, RI Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

Section 302-24 makes it unlawful to operate any mobile food establishment in Pawtucket without a City Clerk permit. The application must give the operator's name, phone, email and business address; a copy of the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation's mobile food establishment registration; a signed hold-harmless agreement protecting the city (§§ 302-24, 302-25); and, for a truck using private property, a current owner-authorization letter valid no more than one year. The standard permit fee is $75 per vehicle, dropping to $50 if the operator already runs a licensed restaurant at a fixed Pawtucket address; a mobile food event or temporary mass gathering permit, for anticipated crowds of 500 or more, costs the event organizer $300 (§ 302-26).

Rather than a fixed one-year term, a mobile food permit runs concurrent with the holder's underlying state mobile food registration, so it lapses whenever that state registration does (§ 302-28). Each permit is personal to the named operator, covers exactly one vehicle, and cannot be transferred between people or trucks (§ 302-29). Veterans who've lived in Rhode Island at least two years and served honorably in wartime can get the fee waived for a nontransferable one-year permit (§ 302-27), though a false statement on that application voids the waiver automatically. The permit must be conspicuously displayed at all times while selling (§ 302-32).
