Selma SMC Chapter 5-7 requires food truck permits with operating hours of 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, distance restrictions from intersections and schools, and $2 million liability insurance.
Under Selma Municipal Code Chapter 5-7, food truck operators must obtain a food truck permit before vending within city limits. Section 5-7-14 establishes operational requirements including: no vending between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM with no overnight parking permitted; a minimum 50-foot distance from any street intersection, crosswalk, fire hydrant, signal crossing, or bus stop; a 300-foot separation from any other vendor during applicable vending hours (except where permits allow groupings on a single parcel); and location within 200 feet of an approved restroom facility for operations exceeding one hour. Vendors must pick up all trash within 200 feet of their position at least every hour. Section 5-7-15 adds additional rules for public right-of-way vending: no vending in one location for more than 10 minutes in any two-hour period within a 500-foot radius, a 500-foot buffer from freeway entrances and exits, and a 300-foot buffer from elementary and secondary schools during school hours. Vendors must carry at least $2 million per occurrence and $4 million aggregate liability insurance, plus $1 million commercial auto coverage. Food service must face away from the street.
Operating without a food truck permit or violating operational requirements is a code violation. Infractions carry fines up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second within one year, and $500 for subsequent violations. The Director may revoke or suspend a food truck permit for repeated violations.
