Shelby, MI Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

A of the Village of Shelby's Vendor Trucks ordinance, Chapter 325 Article II, adopted January 27, 2025 by Ordinance No. 03-24, bars anyone from engaging in business as a vendor truck, defined at Section 325-12 as a truck, camper, trailer, tent, stand or similar mobile structure selling food, merchandise, goods, wares or services from a fixed location, without first getting a license from the Village Clerk. B exempts operators who already have a regularly established place of business in the Village and are on the Village tax rolls.

The Section 325-14 application must give the applicant's and any business's name and mailing address, a certificate from the sealer of weights and measures if scales are used, the anticipated locations and dates of operation for the licensing year, a current food service license from the local, County or State Health Department if food is sold, and a description of operating hours, merchandise, power supply, water and sewer arrangements, garbage handling, and bathroom facilities. Section 325-15 sets the fee by Village Council resolution, but exempts licensees selling for a religious organization, educational institution or other nonprofit, licensees operating only under a Village contract, and licensees who give away prepackaged food at no charge.

Section 325-16 lists prohibited acts including failing to post the license conspicuously, operating outside commercial and industrial zones, blocking building entrances or exits, and creating a nuisance, all enforced by the Village Administrator as enforcing officer under Section 325-17.
