Bryan, TX Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Section 50-273(b) of the Bryan Code of Ordinances governs where and how long a mobile food truck, concession cart or concession trailer can sit and sell. The clock rules come first. A vendor cannot sell at one stationary location for more than five consecutive days, and cannot work more than eight hours per location per day. On a public street classified on the City of Bryan's Thoroughfare Plan as a major collector or lesser, the stop is capped at 30 minutes. On a street classified as a minor arterial or greater, stationary sales are prohibited outright. Sales are also prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. and in any designated bike lane.

Public parking spaces are closed to vendors except inside downtown Bryan. Subsection (b)(6) opens them from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays. For this section downtown is bounded by MLK, Jr. Street on the north, 30th Street on the south, Texas Avenue on the east and Sims Avenue on the west.

Congestion is its own prohibition: no sales where the operation impedes vehicular or pedestrian traffic, or blocks access to the entrance of an adjacent building or driveway. Special events add two more limits. Inside the boundaries of an event with a city-issued special event permit or street closure permit under chapter 106, a vendor needs the written permission of the event sponsor named on that permit. Within 500 feet of any entrance to such an event, sales are prohibited during the event.

These timing and street rules sit on top of the location rules in 50-273(a) and (c). Vendors stay out of single-family, agricultural and townhouse districts unless serving a property within 100 feet that holds an active building permit, working on a lot with a retail business such as a grocery, convenience store or gas station, or operating in a city park under a concessions permit. A vendor must stay 100 feet from an open fixed-location food service establishment unless that business gives written permission. Private property use requires signed owner permission kept inside the unit at all times.
