Macon-Bibb County, GA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Macon-Bibb County's sidewalk food vending rules apply only within the downtown 'fire zone' Sec. 7-390 defines by running from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Riverside Drive along Riverside to Spring Street, along Spring Street to Hazel Street, along Hazel to Fifth Street, and back along Fifth and MLK Boulevard to Riverside Drive. Sec. 7-389 makes it unlawful to carry on food vending business on the streets, sidewalks, or public ways within that zone without a permit, though it does not block separately issued temporary permits or licenses under other parts of the Code.

Sec. 7-391 requires the application go to the Tax Commissioner's office and include the applicant's name and address, business license expiration date, items to be sold, a health department permit, a photograph of the push cart, the proposed location with written approval from the Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority, and a signed indemnification statement backed by liability, food products liability, and property damage insurance of at least $100,000.00 combined single limit naming the county as an additional insured. Sec. 7-392 sets the permit fee at $130.00, due before issuance and again each year.

Once permitted, Sec. 7-394 limits the cart itself to no more than 30 square feet of sidewalk space including the operator and a trash receptacle, caps its dimensions at 4 feet 6 inches wide, 6 feet long, and 5 feet tall excluding canopies, bars it from blocking phone booths, mailboxes, parking meters, fire hydrants, or traffic signals, bans loud noise-making to advertise, and forbids leaving a cart unattended or on the sidewalk between midnight and 6:00 a.m.
