Cincinnati, OH Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Cincinnati licenses street peddlers under Chapter 839, but § 839-13 flatly bars any licensed peddler from demonstrating, selling, offering for sale, or bartering goods, wares, merchandise, food, confection, or drink inside the sidewalk vending districts defined in § 723-16 of the Municipal Code; the section was adopted in 1983 and last amended by Ord. No. 0012-2020. Outside those vending districts, § 839-11 sets the general street-sales rules a licensed peddler must still follow: no sales on Fountain Square, the overhead walkway system, or city parking lots and garages; no sales to occupants of vehicles stopped in traffic; a minimum 12-foot clear sidewalk width from the property line to the curb line; a 20-foot buffer from street intersections, crosswalks, bus stops, or walkway stairways and escalators; a 10-foot buffer from fire hydrants, standpipes, doorways, store windows, or sidewalk elevators; a 40-foot spacing requirement between peddlers (reduced to 20 feet on Sundays and legal holidays); a display footprint capped at 42 inches of lateral sidewalk width and 72 inches of longitudinal sidewalk area; and no street-sales activity anywhere in the city between midnight and 6:00 a.m.

Because § 839-13 makes the vending-district prohibition absolute, none of the § 839-11 spacing or footprint allowances let a licensed peddler operate inside a designated vending district, the district boundary itself is the controlling limit, not distance from a fixture or another peddler.
