Clinton Township, MI Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Building Department location permits under § 820.05(a) run for up to seven days, three months, or six months (§ 820.05(c)), and require a scaled site drawing showing the truck's placement, dispensing and seating areas, and dimensions to buildings, sidewalks, parking-lot driveways, the nearest property line, and lighting (§ 820.05(d)). If a restaurant or similar food establishment sits within 300 feet of a commercial parcel where the truck will vend, the operator must get that establishment's written permission before the Township will issue the permit (§ 820.05(f)).

Vending on Township-owned or Township-controlled property requires a Township Board resolution of approval (§ 820.05(h)), and operating within one block of a Township-authorized event, such as fireworks, art fairs, festivals, the farmers' market, or sporting events, needs written authorization from the event's organizer (§ 820.05(i)). Hours are zone-specific: residential areas only 9:00 a.m. to sunset, commercial areas 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (§ 820.05(o)). Flashing, blinking, or strobe lighting, amplified music, and unauthorized use of another customer's electricity are all barred (§ 820.05(j), (k), (n)).

Permit signage is limited to one portable sign no larger than six square feet and six feet tall, placed within five feet of the unit and never on a sidewalk (§ 820.05(m)). Location permits are nontransferable (§ 820.05(p)).
