DC designates specific Mobile Roadway Vending (MRV) zones where food trucks may legally operate, managed by DDOT. Zones are assigned through an application process and trucks must not operate outside their assigned locations.
DDOT manages the Mobile Roadway Vending (MRV) program that designates specific street locations where food trucks may legally park and sell. Zones are mapped across all eight wards, with concentrations in commercial corridors, near Metro stations, and in areas with high pedestrian traffic. Vendors apply for zone assignments through DDOT and may be assigned to one or more zones on specific days. Zones have time restrictions, typically allowing vending during lunch hours (11 AM - 2 PM) and evening hours. Trucks must not block traffic, fire hydrants, or bus stops. Each zone has a limited number of vendor slots. Some areas such as the Wharf and certain BID districts have their own additional vending regulations.
Operating outside designated zones results in DDOT citations and fines. Repeated violations may result in loss of zone assignment and license revocation.
