The Unified Development Ordinance splits garage sale frequency into two tracks. Under Section 159.127(D)(1), Non-Community Garage Sales, Yard Sales, and Estate Sales cannot be operated from any property for more than six days during the calendar year, no Temporary Use Permit is required for this track, and signage is limited to whatever the general temporary sign standards in Section 159.160 et seq. allow, with no sign permit needed. Under Section 159.127(D)(2), a Community Garage Sale, meaning a coordinated event across a neighborhood or subdivision, is allowed to run up to twenty days during the calendar year, more than triple the individual limit, but organizers must obtain a sign permit, though the city assesses no fee for it.

Both tracks exist separately from the permit-and-sticker garage sale option in Section 159.127(C)(10), which also caps sales at six days per property per year but requires a Temporary Use Permit and a city-issued sticker on the sign. Residents planning a one-off sale therefore have a straightforward, permit-free six-day option, while whole neighborhoods coordinating a shared sale weekend get a longer twenty-day window in exchange for pulling a no-cost sign permit.
