Woodbridge, NJ Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

Section 4-18.5 sets the frequency and time limits: a resident or immediate family member is limited to no more than three garage sale permits in any one calendar year at the same residential property, each sale must run no earlier than 8:00 a.m. and no later than 5:00 p.m., and it cannot last more than three consecutive days or three days total counting a raindate. Sales must stay within the property lines, with nothing offered for sale placed on a sidewalk, street or public right-of-way, and in apartment, condominium or townhouse complexes a sale cannot block pedestrian or vehicle access through the property.

Only Township of Woodbridge residents over 18 may hold a sale, and only at a residential property; the Township adopted this cap because, per § 4-18.1, repeated sales at the same sites were turning into commercial enterprises in residential neighborhoods and hurting the character of the neighborhood and traffic. Getting a permit requires a written application to the Township Clerk at least two business days before the sale, at no fee, listing the sale dates, any raindate, and the location, and the permit must be displayed at the sale site (§ 4-18.4).

Tenants, HOA-governed owners, or family members of either need the landlord's and/or homeowners' association's written consent attached to the application (§ 4-18.6). The Police Department and the Zoning and Building Department both enforce the section (§ 4-18.8).
