Woodbridge, NJ Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

a, most recently amended by Ordinance No. 2025-27 on April 22, 2025, bars any person from maintaining, keeping or harboring cattle, rabbits, sheep, goats, ducks, swine, horses, chickens or similar nondomesticated animals or fowl, excluding pigeons, on residential premises, unless the Department of Health and Human Services, in its sole discretion, grants a special permit after determining the property is suitable for housing the animals. Any exterior structure used to house the animals must also satisfy the Land Use and Development Ordinance and, under this section, must not exceed six feet in height, must not exceed twenty square feet in footprint, must not sit within ten feet of any property boundary line, and is only permitted in the rear yard.

The permit renews every January 1, costs $75 a year, and can be revoked on a follow-up inspection if the premises are unsanitary or the coop no longer complies. b puts enforcement there outside Township jurisdiction. 3 at $500 a year, renewable each January 1 and revocable for the same sanitary or nuisance reasons. 2 independently declares any animal-keeping that creates noxious odors or attracts flies, mosquitoes or other insects a nuisance, giving the Department authority to remove the animals after a twenty-day cure period.
