Edison, NJ Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

Article V defines 'cattle' to include cows, horses, mules, asses, sheep, goats, deer and other hoofed animals (not swine), and § 9-21.2 requires Zoning Officer and Health Officer approval plus a Division of Licenses permit before keeping any on a property. Section 9-21.14 bars pasturing cattle within 150 feet of any dwelling or adjoining property line, and bars stabling within 50 feet of a dwelling or 10 feet of a property line. Manure pits face their own setback: 10 feet from a property line, 50 feet from the nearest dwelling under § 9-21.15. Swine are separately banned outright except for one Vietnamese potbellied pig per household under § 9-22.1.
