Edison Township's Chapter 37 (Zoning) sets minimum off-street parking requirements for residential and non-residential uses (typically 2 spaces per single-family dwelling) and requires that residential parking areas be hard-surfaced (concrete, asphalt or approved pavers) and accessed via a driveway from the street. Curb cuts and driveway aprons crossing the public right-of-way require a permit and inspection from the Edison Township Engineering Division (732-248-7250), which reviews the location, width, slope, drainage and any impact on the street drainage system or street trees. The driveway apron must comply with township and county standards for curb height, gutter continuity, and ADA-compliant sidewalk crossings where sidewalks exist. New residential driveways are typically limited to widths consistent with the garage or required spaces (usually around 20 feet at the curb); shared driveways and corner-lot setbacks from intersections also apply.
