Summary
Edison Township caps residential fences at four feet in the front yard if they block visibility and six feet everywhere else in a residential zone, per Code § 37-4.3(f)(1). Corner lots must keep a 25-foot sight triangle clear of any fence at each street intersection under § 37-4.3(f)(6), and industrial-zone side and rear fences may rise to ten feet.
f. The requirements of this section respecting yards shall not apply to any necessary retaining wall or steps or to any fence or wall which is less than six (6) feet high. In addition to the above, the following shall control the location, height and design of fences: 1. In any residential zone, no fence shall be permitted in the front yard area which will restrict visibility and be over four (4) feet high. No fence shall exceed six (6) feet in height. On a corner lot, the fencing along the street frontage coincident with the architectural front door, or main dwelling entrance, shall be subject to the same restrictions as for a front yard area. ... 6. On any corner lot, no fence, wall or other structure shall be permitted within a triangle formed by two (2) sides measured twenty-five (25) feet from the point of intersection of the street right-of-way lines and the connecting of the two (2) points twenty-five (25) feet in distance from the intersecting point of the street right-of-way lines.

Full Breakdown
3(f) of the Zoning Chapter sets the operative fence standards township-wide. In any residential zone, a fence in the front yard area that restricts visibility may not exceed four feet, and no fence may exceed six feet in height anywhere in a residential zone. On a corner lot, the frontage that lines up with the architectural front door or main dwelling entrance is held to the same four/six-foot front-yard limits; the other street frontage may extend fencing into the front yard setback for a distance equal to half the required front yard setback.
A through lot, defined as an interior lot fronting two non-intersecting streets that runs unobstructed street to street, is treated the same as a corner lot on both frontages. 3(f)(6). 3(f)(2)-(3). 3(f)(4). 3(f)(8). 1. 4(d).
Violations & Fines
Fences are enforced under the Zoning Chapter's general violations section, § 37-67.5. Any owner, agent, builder or contractor who erects a noncompliant fence is guilty of a violation, and the Zoning Officer may order the condition remedied in writing. Under N.J.S.A. 40:49-5, a Municipal Court judge may impose up to 90 days in the county jail, up to 90 days of community service, or a fine, and each day the fence remains noncompliant is a separate violation.
