Edison, NJ Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Edison Township Code § 10-22.1 sets a nightly curfew for oversized vehicles on residential streets: no omnibus, motor home, house trailer, camping trailer, boat trailer, utility trailer, or piece of construction equipment may be parked on a street in a residential zone between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., regardless of the vehicle's weight. The restriction runs by the clock, not by day of week, and applies to every residential zone in the township, not a single neighborhood or overlay district.

A companion rule, § 10-22.2, addresses what drivers may not use the street or a municipal parking lot for at any hour. It is unlawful to park a vehicle on any street or in any municipal parking lot to display it for sale, or to clean, grease or repair it. The only carve-out is for repairs necessitated by an emergency, such as a roadside breakdown; routine maintenance, detailing or for-sale staging on the curb or in a municipal lot is not covered by that exception.

Neither section states its own fine, so a violation falls under the Township's general penalty at Code § 1-5.1: a fine up to $2,000, imprisonment up to 90 days, or up to 90 days of community service, at the Municipal Court judge's discretion. Under § 1-5.3, a second conviction of the same provision within one year draws an additional, separately calculated fine on top of the base penalty. Each day a vehicle remains in violation can count as a separate offense under the Code's general separate-violations rule, § 1-5.5.
