Garfield requires a $10 permit for any garage, attic, or rummage sale, picked up from the Police Department on the day of the sale and displayed on site.
Under the city's Garage Sales chapter, no garage sale may be conducted in Garfield without first obtaining a permit, and the permit fee is $10. The chapter defines a garage sale broadly to include attic sales, rummage sales, or any similar casual sale of tangible personal property advertised to the public. Applications must include the name and address of the person or organization conducting the sale, the property owner's name, the responsible person in charge, the dates and number of days of the sale, and the dates and locations of any prior sales by the applicant during the calendar year. Permits must be picked up from the Police Department on the day of the sale and prominently displayed on the premises throughout the sale.
Any person convicted of a violation of the Garage Sales chapter is subject to a fine of not more than $50 per offense.
