Ridgewood requires a permit from the Village Clerk before conducting any garage, lawn, attic, rummage, flea market, or estate sale in residential zones.
Chapter 163 of the Ridgewood Code makes it unlawful to conduct any garage sale, lawn sale, attic sale, rummage sale, flea market, estate sale, or similar casual sale of tangible personal property advertised in residential zones without first obtaining a permit from the Village Clerk. The license must be prominently displayed on the sale premises throughout the entire sale. The licensee and the property owner or tenant share joint and several responsibility for maintaining order, preventing loud or boisterous conduct, and ensuring vehicles do not impede traffic in the area. Apply at the Village Clerk's office before advertising or holding the sale.
Holding a garage sale without a permit or failing to display the license can result in fines and an order to cease the sale.
