A search of the Tallahassee Code of Ordinances (Municode Chapter 5 – Businesses and all other chapters) reveals no codified garage-sale or yard-sale permit requirement. Residents may hold sales without obtaining a city permit or paying a fee. However, general provisions apply: temporary signs advertising the sale must comply with Chapter 14 sign regulations; noise ordinance limits under Chapter 12 apply to amplified sound; and the right-of-way may not be blocked. Leon County also imposes no separate county permit for occasional residential sales. Florida state law does not mandate a sales-tax permit for isolated, non-recurring personal-property sales.
No permit-specific penalty. Violations of sign, noise, or right-of-way rules during the sale can result in code-enforcement fines under the applicable chapter.
