Jefferson Parish, LA Home Business: Customer Traffic Restrictions (2026)

Sec. 4 lists every home occupation Jefferson Parish authorizes, and several carry their own client-traffic caps layered on top of the general home occupation standards in Sec. 3. Computer training is limited to no more than one student at a time, diet, weight reduction, and exercise services to no more than one client at a time, and music, art, craft, and similar lessons to no more than one pupil at a time. Other authorized home occupations, such as accounting, legal services, real estate, and consulting, carry no numeric client cap in the list itself, but a mail-order business is limited to order-taking only with no stock in trade kept on site.

Every home occupation, capped client count or not, still has to meet the general standards in Sec. 3: it stays inside 15 percent of the dwelling's gross floor area, only residents of the home can work in it, one added off-street parking space has to be provided, and deliveries and pickups can only happen during normal residential hours without blocking traffic. The client-at-a-time limits exist specifically to keep occupations that draw repeat foot or vehicle traffic, tutoring, personal training, hair care, from turning a residential block into something closer to a retail storefront.
