Jefferson Parish home occupations may not advertise with exterior commercial signs. The zoning standards allow only a small nameplate of not more than two square feet, with no other outward indication the dwelling is used for business.
The parish zoning home-occupation standards require that there be no exterior indication the dwelling is used for anything other than a residence, other than a permitted nameplate. The allowed nameplate may be not more than two (2) square feet and must be non-illuminated in a way consistent with residential character. This keeps signage far below the commercial sign allowances in Chapter 40's sign article (Article VI, sign and minimum requirements). Larger business signs, illuminated signs, or freestanding advertising are not permitted for a home occupation. Incorporated cities within the parish set their own home-business sign limits.
An oversized, illuminated, or freestanding home-business sign violates the home-occupation conditions and the parish sign regulations, enforced by Inspection and Code Enforcement with removal orders and citations.
