Forsyth County caps foot traffic at a Professional Home Office hard: only two customers may be on the premises, and just one passenger vehicle may be used for the business. Client visits stay incidental to residential life.
The Unified Development Code keeps a home office from turning a residential lot into a commercial destination. UDC Chapter 16, Section 3.1(A) provides that there shall be only two customers on the premises, and that no more than one vehicle, used primarily as a passenger vehicle, may be used in connection with the home office. Trucks with three or more axles, tractor-trailers, and heavy equipment are barred outside agricultural districts. Off-street parking is required, and parking on lawn areas is prohibited. A home occupation generating heavier traffic than these limits allow must seek a conditional use permit or move to a commercial zone.
Exceeding the two-customer limit, using more than one qualifying vehicle, or generating traffic beyond the home-office criteria is a UDC violation, exposing the operator to code enforcement, citations, and loss of the home office license.
