Modesto restricts customer and client visits to home-based businesses. Home occupations must not generate traffic, parking demand, or deliveries beyond what is normal for a residential neighborhood.
Home occupations in Modesto must not generate customer or client traffic that exceeds what is normal for a residential area. The intent is to prevent parking congestion, increased traffic, and neighborhood disturbance. Businesses that require frequent client visits (salons, tutoring, counseling) may be permitted with limitations on the number of daily appointments. Large delivery trucks and frequent commercial deliveries are discouraged. The home occupation must not result in vehicles queuing on the street. Online businesses with shipping are generally acceptable if deliveries are at normal residential levels. Violations are enforced by Code Enforcement based on neighbor complaints.
Excessive traffic: code enforcement warning. Continued violations: revocation of home occupation privilege and business license.
