Home occupations in unincorporated Sonoma County may receive no more than four customers per day, two at a time, and ten deliveries or pickups per week, with customer visits limited to 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Sonoma County Code Section 26-88-121(e) sets operating requirements for home occupations in unincorporated areas. No one other than residents of the dwelling may be employed, customer visits and deliveries are limited to 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and may not occur on state and federal holidays, and only one commercial vehicle of one ton or smaller may be kept on site. Outdoor storage and outdoor business activity are prohibited, and the use may not create offsite dust, fumes, glare, light, noise, odor, smoke, or vibration. Under Ordinance No. 6363, adopted December 14, 2021, a zoning permit is no longer required for home occupations that meet these standards, per Permit Sonoma guidance PJR-048.
Exceeding customer, delivery, or hours limits removes the by-right status of the home occupation and is subject to Sonoma County code enforcement; higher-intensity operations need authorization as a live/work use instead.
