Philadelphia's Zoning Code splits home occupations into three tiers. A "general" home business (anything beyond the listed professional list) may have nonresident partners, employees, or customers visit, but caps it at three non-resident people on the premises at any one time, including one permitted employee. "Professional" home businesses (doctors, dentists, chiropractors, ministers, lawyers, psychologists, architects) get one regularly-employed assistant but nonresident partners and colleagues are barred from visiting the premises to engage in the occupation at all. Home offices (solo, no employees) can't have any customer or partner present on-site: that work has to happen off the premises. General home businesses are only allowed by-right in RM, RMX, and most other districts, and need a special exception in RTA districts; they're not allowed at all in RSD or RSA districts.
