Fulton County, GA Home Business: Customer Traffic Restrictions (2026)

Zoning Resolution § 4.12 permits a home occupation as an accessory use of a dwelling in any zoning district, but only when the operation and its employees are limited to members of the resident family. Subsection G sets the customer cap directly: no more than two clients or patrons may be on the premises at the same time in connection with the home occupation, except for children in care at a family day care home operated as a home occupation, where the limit rises to six.

That traffic cap sits alongside several other limits in the same section that shape how a home business can run: the home occupation can use no more than the smaller of 25 percent or 750 square feet of the dwelling's gross floor area (§ 4.12.A), cannot use an accessory building or structure (§ 4.12.B), and cannot generate traffic, sound, smell, vibration, light or dust that is offensive to neighbors (§ 4.12.F). Vehicles kept on site for the business must belong to residents only, and no goods may be transported by truck to or from the property (§ 4.12.H, I). A family day care home specifically also needs at least 1,000 feet of separation from any other home-based day care, must limit its outdoor play area to a side or rear yard away from the street, and can only operate Monday through Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (§ 4.12.K through N).

This is a county zoning rule, so it applies only to homes in unincorporated Fulton County; a home business inside Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Milton, Chattahoochee Hills or South Fulton follows that city's own home-occupation ordinance instead.
