Catoosa County, GA Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Catoosa County's home occupation standards give signage its own numbered rule at UDC Section 5.02.02(C)(9). A home business may post a professional or business name plate, but it must be nonilluminated, capped at 2 square feet in area, and set back at least 20 feet from any property line and at least 10 feet from any road right-of-way. The section closes with a flat ban on neon lighting. The sign must also otherwise comply with the rest of the UDC's general sign standards, so a home business cannot use the home-occupation allowance to install a larger or differently sited sign than what the surrounding zoning district would allow a comparable use.

Read alongside the rest of Section 5.02.02(C), the sign standard reinforces the county's broader intent for home occupations to stay invisible from the street: subsection (C)(3) already bars a home business from displaying merchandise for advertising or in a way visible from outside the dwelling, and subsection (C)(5) bars any change to the residential character of the property. A single small name plate meeting the size, setback and illumination limits is the entire signage allowance; anything larger, lit, or placed closer to the property line or right-of-way than the UDC permits is out of compliance the moment the Zoning Administrator inspects it, whether the sign advertises a home office, a tutoring business, or any other recognized home occupation.
