Floyd County, GA Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

The rule sits inside the customary accessory use standards for dwellings, not in a separate home business chapter, because the code treats a home office and a residential business as accessory uses to the house itself. Subsection (l), covering the plain 'residential home office' (work done at home for an off-site employer), goes further than the sign cross-reference: subsection (1) states flatly that there shall be no exterior indication that the business activity is taking place, including signage, so a home office is not just limited to small signage, it is barred from any exterior sign entirely.

The sign cross-reference in (5) applies to the broader 'residential business' category defined in subsection (m), covering artisans, craftspeople, and other licensed home-based sellers who are allowed a Special Use Permit; those operations may put up a sign, but only one that fits the Article 5 table for the applicable residential district. Under Table 5-1, a single-family lot in the S-R, LT-R, HT-R, or D-R districts is capped at one freestanding sign of no more than 5 feet in height and 6 square feet of face area, with a maximum structure area of 16 square feet.

1(a) is required before any freestanding sign over 15 square feet or building sign over 6 square feet goes up, though a home-business sign this small will rarely trigger that threshold.
