Sec. 53-122(D) of the ULDC explicitly prohibits advertising signs on residential properties used for home occupations. Chapter 29 (Sign Regulations) of the ULDC remains the active sign code (preserved when the rest of the ULDC was reorganized by Ord. 2024-13 effective Oct 28, 2024).
Home occupations in RSF districts cannot display advertising signs of any kind. Chapter 29 controls commercial sign regulation, but residential properties simply lose the privilege of displaying business signage when occupancy is residential. Temporary real-estate, political, and garage-sale signs are addressed separately in the sign code and are not 'business' signs in this sense. Vehicles with business graphics parked in driveways are subject to the Sec. 59-16 vehicle-storage rules and may be cited if they amount to advertising rather than incidental vehicle use.
An unpermitted business sign is a Code Enforcement violation with fines up to $500/day and required removal.
