Temple, TX Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Under the Unified Development Code's home occupation standards, a home business must stay inside the main dwelling, remain clearly incidental to residential use, and employ only household family members. On top of those limits, the code adds a standalone ban: no sign advertising the home occupation is allowed, period, there's no small-nameplate or square-footage carve-out written into the rule. The UDC separately defines a "Home Occupation Sign" as any sign or advertising device promoting a business, profession, occupation or trade conducted in the residence, confirming the prohibition covers advertising devices broadly, not just traditional yard signs.
