Yavapai County, AZ Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Section 543.H folds home-business signage into the general residential rule rather than giving it its own allowance: whatever nameplate identification signage a residence is entitled to display under Section 601, the county's Sign Code, is the only signage a home occupation may use, and the Ordinance is explicit that the sign 'shall not advertise the home occupation.' That means a home business cannot post a sign naming its services, listing hours, or otherwise marketing itself to passersby, even though the outward appearance of the property is likewise restricted under Section 543.B, which prohibits any exterior change (color, materials, lighting, signage, sound) that would let the property be recognized as serving a non-residential use.

Because the signage standard sits inside the Home Occupation Permit rather than a separate sign permit, the Development Services Director reviews compliance under Section 543.I and can cancel the Home Occupation Permit if a business posts advertising signage. A property owner may appeal an adverse decision to the Board of Supervisors within thirty days of notice under Section 543.J.
