Grand Prairie allows home occupations in residential zones as accessory uses. The business must be incidental to the residential use, operated by the resident, and must not change the character of the neighborhood. No more than 25% of the home may be used for business.
Home occupations are permitted as accessory uses in residential districts under the zoning ordinance. The business must be conducted entirely within the dwelling. No more than one non-resident employee is typically allowed. The home must retain its residential appearance with no exterior evidence of the business (no commercial signage, equipment, or outdoor storage). Prohibited home occupations may include auto repair, beauty salons with walk-in traffic, and any use generating excessive traffic or noise.
Operating without permit: cease-and-desist order. Fines $100 to $500 per day. Business license penalties apply.
