Certain business types are prohibited including auto repair, barber/beauty shops in most zones, and any activity requiring a commercial building permit. Suburban municipalities Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard, and Upper Arlington have similar home-occupation ordinances. Townships regulate through their zoning resolutions; most allow home offices freely and restrict commercial-traffic businesses. Any business requiring a state license (daycare, food preparation, massage therapy) must hold that license separately from the zoning approval.
Zoning violations begin with a notice and 30-day cure period. Continued operation can result in fines up to 500 dollars per day and civil injunctions to cease business activity at the residence.
