Under Columbus City Codes § 3332.37, a home occupation is allowed as an accessory use in residential districts only if it stays subordinate to the home: no more than 20 percent of the livable area can be used for it, no structural alterations or exterior evidence of the business are permitted (aside from one home occupation sign), and no employee besides a permanent resident may work there, except one outside assistant for architects, attorneys, clergy, dentists, engineers, physicians, or surgeons. No wholesale or retail sales, including firearm sales, may be conducted in the dwelling, and the use can't generate traffic, noise, odors, or utility demand beyond what's normal for the neighborhood.
