Full Breakdown

Quincy accepted the state's local-option room occupancy excise for short-term rentals under M.G.L. c. 64G, § 3A, allowing the city to charge up to 6% of total rent on each occupancy. Booking agents that handle payment must collect and remit the excise to the Commonwealth under an agreement with the City; operators who don't use a booking agent must collect and remit it themselves. The excise applies on top of any state-level room tax and is separate from Quincy's community impact fee on short-term rentals.

Violations & Fines

Failure to collect or remit the excise is enforced as a tax matter under M.G.L. c. 64G, separate from DIS's registration fine schedule; noncompliant listings can also jeopardize the unit's short-term rental registration.
