Nebraska §4-114 requires public employers and state contractors to use the federal E-Verify system to confirm employment eligibility. The mandate covers Omaha city government and many vendors but does not extend to all private employers.
Nebraska Revised Statute 4-114 requires every public employer in the state, plus contractors and subcontractors performing work under state or local government contracts, to register and use the federal E-Verify system to confirm employment eligibility for new hires. The mandate covers City of Omaha government and Douglas County government employment as well as vendors performing public work. Private employers without state contracts are not required to use E-Verify under Nebraska law, though many large employers including ConAgra and Mutual of Omaha use it voluntarily.
Failure to use E-Verify on covered work can bring contract termination, debarment from future state and local contracts, and civil penalties under §4-114.
