Linden, NJ Landscaping Rules: Artificial Turf (2026)

Linden regulates artificial turf only in the narrow context of City Code Chapter 10, Article III, which sets maintenance standards for vacant properties and properties in foreclosure. 3, front yards, rear yards and side yards of those properties must be "landscaped and maintained to neighborhood standards," and the code explicitly names "artificial turf/sod specifically designed for residential or commercial installation" as an approved form of ground cover, on the same footing as grass, mulch, decorative rock, bushes, shrubs, hedges and trees. The section also requires regular watering, irrigation, cutting, pruning and mowing of whatever vegetation or ground cover is installed, and removal of trimmings.

This standard applies to owners of registered vacant properties and to creditors who have filed a foreclosure summons and complaint, both of whom must maintain the yard to that neighborhood standard once the property is vacant. 8, and the Mayor may designate additional City departments as needed. The code does not set a separate, general-purpose artificial turf rule for occupied residential lots citywide; the only textual reference to artificial turf in Linden's code appears in this vacant-and-foreclosing-property maintenance context, so a property that is currently occupied is not directly governed by this specific yard-material list.
