Residential composting is permitted in North Miami for yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, branches) and organic kitchen scraps (fruit and vegetable waste, coffee grounds, eggshells). Compost bins or piles must be maintained to prevent offensive odors, pest attraction (rodents, flies), and nuisance conditions for neighboring properties. Compost areas should be located in rear or side yards, not in front yard areas. Meat, dairy, and grease should not be added to residential compost to avoid pest and odor issues.
